I was part of the Curriculum Writers team in 2020 that developed the new scope and sequence documents and accompanying units of work for South Australian educators. The five-week-long units of work connect curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, explain how to embed a literacy and numeracy focus into planning and teaching and follow the relevant sequence of learning. Our goal was to create an accessible curriculum model which teachers can adapt to suit their context. For this reason, they are not prescriptive – they have been designed to allow flexibility while offering best-practice suggestions for maximum student engagement.
The structure of these units will support teachers to:
understand how to plan their delivery of the Australian Curriculum and Teaching for Effective Learning (TfEL)
see how the Australian Curriculum and TfEL can be delivered across each learning area
integrate the general capabilities and cross curriculum priorities
make connections between curriculum, pedagogy and assessment
identify opportunities for explicitly integrating literacy and numeracy.
